RESEARCH

The research of my lab group focuses on the sedimentology, geochemistry, and diagenesis of marine, especially carbonate, successions. Our work emphasizes understanding ancient climates and environments. We integrate traditional field work in both modern and ancient depositional systems with detailed laboratory-based petrographic and geochemical analyses to better understand processes that control deposition and diagenesis. Current work emphasizes studies of successions that formed during major climate transitions in Earth History to understand how such changes impact depositional systems and the preservation of their deposits in the rock record. We are also investigating carbonate deposition and diagenetic processes on polar shelves in order to improve understanding of how depositional conditions control aspects of lithification, preservation, and porosity distribution.
